How to align your mining project with your business objectives

The first step to success is pre-project planning through a Front-end Engineering Design (FEED) Study. During a FEED study, TM Australia will align your project and business objectives while creating a master plan for execution. We deliver the ROI you expect on your projects by applying decades of operations, engineering and project management knowledge and expertise.

A FEED study's primary objective is to define a project's scope of work and early identification of potential problem areas and necessary changes to overcome challenges. Often we experience that mitigating the risks and determining alternatives were not adequately addressed, giving cause to unnecessary delays and continuously more studies and investigations.

During FEED studies, more often than not, we find that business management can proceed with full disclosure of opportunities and simultaneously address changes/alternatives instead of wasting time by more studies investigating the problem areas identified during a gap analysis. In nine out of ten operational improvements or start-ups, someone always resists a solution to a problem.

Key to executing a successful project is good communication to ensure all key stakeholders contribute to and align themselves with the project objectives. If a common goal is not adopted, things can go wrong and cause unnecessary disagreement between project members - set the objectives and stick to them, regardless of the challenges.

Most mining projects that have gone through the study phases have adequately identified the project risks and challenges to the extent that sufficient data exist to address the same during a FEED. Analysing this data enables us to design solutions to address the identified risks.

TM Australia's FEED studies include a detailed scope of the engineering and design, project execution and procurement plan with a FEED document project summary that includes FEED deliverables to be used by the project team. In nine of ten operational improvement assignments, we detected that a FEED was not carried out at the start-up, and as soon as the basics were applied, we set up the project for success.
