Case studies

A major mining corporation, responsible for multiple mines, needed to evaluate the most effective operational model for each of its mines. The challenge lay in balancing CAPEX and OPEX while ensuring that the chosen operational models align with the company’s broader strategic objectives. To gain an objective perspective and enhance the decision-making process, the corporation engaged Tacmin as an independent third-party expert.

This open-pit project in West Africa, engineered and managed by TacminMadini, presented unique challenges due to its complex geological structure, wet rainforest conditions, and multiple pit mining operations. This case study highlights TacminMadini's approach to addressing these challenges, focusing on decades of experience in geological modeling and mine design, strategic mine planning to mine the geology rather than just the block model, ore blending from numerous pits, mining equipment allocation and scheduling, training of the local workforce, improved mining conditions, flexible scheduling based on PMI principles, and the extensive experience of the management team.

TacminMadini's structured approach, based on PMI principles and advanced project management tools similar to those applied during infrastructure and process plant construction, effectively bridged the gap between construction and mining operations. The comprehensive strategies implemented established a framework for future project success. This case study proves that mining operations can achieve equally successful outcomes by leveraging PMI principles and advanced project management strategies similar to those in the construction industry.
